You go first Khalfani

One of the most famous wildlife events in the world is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya and back again in search of fresh grass for grazing. The wildebeest are joined by zebra and various species of antelope also looking for food. The abundance of prey means that there is also a large number of predators and there are few better photographic opportunities than when it reaches the Mara in August and September.
This image was taken just near the bank of the Mara River at a crossing point. It’s a dangerous place for the wildebeest, the bank is very steep and there is always a chance of a slip or fall into the jaws of the waiting crocodiles. Groups come together and wait at the bank, having a look at what is going on and taking their time to choose the right place and moment to make the crossing.
They’re just waiting for one animal to take the lead and quite literally ‘test the water’. And they can wait for days. Once a leader makes their move a stampede follows and hundreds or even thousands of wildebeest make the crossing.
For many people witnessing the migration is on their things to do before they die. I couldn’t think of a better choice for that list.
If you were wondering, Khalfani is Swahili for leader.
