Last Sunday, I watched the sun rise over RSPB Arne in Dorset. It was a fabulous sight, although you might think that getting up at 4.45am on my birthday to travel there was a little crazy!
Just a short post tonight – I wanted to let you know that next week we’ll be running some special posts. Experienced campaigners have written pieces which will tell you why they are passionate about what they do, and more importantly what you can do to help their campaigns. Just as the sun coming up on Sunday made Arne a little brighter every few seconds, I’m hoping your help will do the same for the future of animals, both captive and wild.
I’d love a week of people doing simple acts to help. If you read this blog regularly you’ll know I have fairly strong views on captivity but next week my opinion doesn’t matter – I can write about that for the other 51 weeks this year. I want to hear your views and I want to start a national discussion about what is acceptable in terms of animal welfare. As a realist, I’m certain a majority of the British people don’t agree entirely with me on captivity, but I’m also certain that a majority of those who know what goes on don’t agree with that either.
Let’s help some campaigns and have a discussion. Let’s tell people about animal welfare and get them involved. That’s what it’s about, and it starts right here at 7pm Monday.
