The also-rans: Travelling herd

by Darren

I can’t possibly expect you to see what I do in this image because reproduction on the internet limits the size and resolution I’m able to show you, but the detail in it and the painterly look is fantastic.

It nearly hit the bin.  I sat there with my finger over the button when suddenly I just saw something.  I don’t remember which bit, but it’s the detail which keeps me coming back and seeing more in this image two years later.

The herd are migrating from Kenya back to Tanzania and top right heads toward the mighty Mara river, a life and death challenge that these wildebeest have to face twice a year.

I wonder what’s going on amongst the group in the centre at the bottom.  I wonder why a few are lying down while the others are heading off.  I want to know why the fella a third of the way up on the right is looking back.  Endless questions in an artistic photograph that it’s possible to put on a wall and live with every day.  I mentioned that we’re evaluating a canvas supplier in my previous post, and I’m about to order a copy of this for our living room at home.
