So long, and thanks for all the ink!

Cuttlefish are amazing creatures. To watch them displaying (they change colour) is a special experience, and I was fortunate during this trip to see two at opposite ends of the local area.
Despite the name, they are actually molluscs, not fish, and have one of the largest brain to body sizes of all invertebrates. They’re preyed upon by larger marine life such as sharks and dolphins.
But the trivia you really need to know, is that if you happened to be one of those larger marine creatures, the cuttlefish would leave a brown cloud of ink in its wake as a defence mechanism. An ink used by photographers to tone prints and named after the latin name for cuttlefish – sepia!
