Sky Mirror

This is Anish Kapoor’s Sky Mirror. Reflected in the mirror, which as the name suggests points up to the sky rather than straight ahead, is the famous Casino de Monte Carlo.

When we visited Monaco earlier this year we had to take some time to have a gamble in the casino. Not much though – we limited ourselves to €10 each – just two plays on the roulette wheel as the minimum bet was €5. I lasted longest and managed to place 4 bets before my limited luck ran out.

Sadly photographs aren’t allowed inside the casino which is a real shame. I would have loved to spend some time taking photos of the gamblers and their games, the (predominately) men placing hundreds of euros on one number on the roulette wheel, the people watching – trying to work out if there was a way to beat the system and the (predominately) women who spent all their time on the slot machines. And they weren’t the 2p coin pushers that I played in Blackpool as a kid!
