Mum, I’m a freak!

Next up after the little brown job in the must see list of a bad birdwatcher has to be moorhens and coots. Lovely to watch, with some humerous moments, the adults don’t seem too strange just so long as you don’t look at their feet.

But find some chicks, especially moorhen ones (because they’re more likely to be on land), and you’ll see a whole new world of freakdom. Their feet seem to be adult size from day one which is huge in relation to their body, and they’ve always got this spiky gawky thing going on with their feathers.

Strange creatures, but watch for a few minutes and you’ll love ‘em to bits!
