Just like a one-night stand

by Darren

Sometimes I think starlings are my favourite birds.  When they come to the garden they are hungry, noisy, colourful visitors. But when, as here, they are roosting in large numbers they contribute to a living artwork in the sky.

As if they’ve just had an embarrassing one-night stand starlings tend to just get up and leave in the morning (an impressive sight in itself just because of the sheer numbers that fill the view) but it’s at sunset when the colours of the sky act as a dramatic contrast to the black print created by the murmuration of thousands flying in formation that really makes people go weak at the knees.
