Every Friday, Darren invites someone to become ‘Guest Editor’ for the day to choose and discuss three or four images that have not been previously published on the website. Today’s Guest Editor is Laura Bergerol, a professional photographer from New Orleans, Louisiana who specialises in portraiture. She tries to capture the world around her with all of its wonder, joy and laughter. You can see Laura’s work on her website. Laura is also the co-founder of Images Without Borders which is a photo charity that sells prints to help Doctors Without Borders carry on their mission around the globe.
I was asked by Darren to review some images as guest editor. I picked the three which will appear today …probably since I was drawn to the silence of the portraits. While each portrait captures a different moment in time, there is also a solitude that is captured as well.
The soldier standing sentry, even though there is another soldier in the distance behind him, bears an air of isolation and distance that is nicely captured in this photo.
