Moorhens are a common sight in most of our rivers and are among my favourite birds. The adult moorhen is quite a sleek and handsome bird but the chick is quite a strange and freaky little creature. This young one is mooching around the rocks by the edge of a small pool. I’ve deliberately chosen a longer shutter speed to soften the water and show how even a little pool can be an intimidating environment for one so small.
