Cliché!
by Darren

Puerto Galera in the Philippines was the second foreign dive trip I’ve undertaken with Sussex Scuba. Last year in Indonesia, I made the ‘mistake’ of calling an image taken by Derek Lancaster (one of the owners) a cliché. It was an Ocellaris Clownfish like this one, and I’ve never lived it down. Of course, it was a cliché, as is this. Doesn’t stop it being a nice image, and especially useful for testing new kit (I was using Sea&Sea YS-110 strobes for the first time).
Clownfish are nice too. They fiercely defend their anemone and will come out at divers and try and chase us away, even though we’re about a gazillion times bigger than they are. It’s always a fun and playful experience.
Derek likes to ‘shadow box’ with them, something another of our group called Alex tried this year. Derek forgot to tell her that they do bite if you get too close ….. she knows now!
