Capturing Character

by Rebecca Michael

Every Friday, Darren invites someone to become ‘Guest Editor’ for the day to choose and discuss three or four images that have not been previously published on the website.  Today’s Guest Editor is Rebecca Michael, a wildlife photographer trapped in a concrete jungle.  You can see Rebecca’s photography on her website and follow her on Twitter.

I chose the image of this beautiful squirrel, as I think it perfectly captures this little creature’s incredible ‘character’. I think the choices made here are just incredible, just the right depth of field to really get a sense of his facial expression and the structure of his face and the classic paws, and this moment of activity. The muted green background once again creates ‘stillness’ within this image that draws your eye in to the focal point of this image, the incredible detailed paws.
