Big, grumpy and dopey – no it’s not a self portrait!

Buffalo are another one of this creatures that most people look at and move on, but I find them utterly fascinating. They are big and can be very grumpy, but they can also look a bit dopey at times. A bit like me I guess!

On one occasion I was at a lodge in Amboseli and decided that I’d approach the fence in the dark and take some flash lit images through the fence of the herd just outside. I hadn’t been there long when one started scraping it’s hoof and it occurred to me that while the electric fence would have stopped the first buffalo to charge, it probably wouldn’t withstand a stampede! Not one of my wisest decisions – I rapidly retreated.

Anyway, this youngster just had something about it and I enjoyed being in its company. I hope you enjoy the image.
